Banbridge CC hosted their annual prize giving and dinner at the Belmont Hotel on Friday past, 8th Nov. The 2024 event also served to celebrate the club’s 80th Anniversary. To mark the occasion a special guest of honour, Wilbur Aiken, was invited to assist with the presentation of awards. Wilbur served as Banbridge CC Chairman from 1989 – ’94, was Secretary in 2011 & 2012, was Club President from 2003 – 2012 and was also named Club Person of the Year in 1989.
Also in attendance was Denise Lavery, wife of the late David Lavery, along with Denise and David’s daughters, Aisling and Orla. The David Lavery Memorial Cup was introduced through the 2024 season and having David’s family in attendance to formally present the cup made for a special occasion.
Following the announcement of the award winners Chairman, Aaron Wallace, announced special recognition in the form of an Honorary Lifetime Membership to long time member, sponsor and supporter of the club, Stevie O’Hagan. Stevie raced for Banbridge CC with distinction, the pinnacle of which was his victory in the Veteran’s National Road Race Championships. He has since been a long term sponsor of Banbridge CC events, the Banbridge CC Team Car, has assisted with securing additional sponsors and the procurement of club kit.
It was a wonderful night of celebration enjoyed by over 90 guests, and once again fantastically co-ordinated by Toni Hannigan. A full list of the award winners can be found below. Photos from the evening can be found on our Facebook page, courtesy of Paul Hannigan.
